About Us

Shirpser Elementary was built in 1952 and is located approximately 12 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, in friendly El Monte. Historically, El Monte is known as “The End of the Santa Fe Trail,” while it may be the end of the trail, EL Monte schools are the place to  begin  a 21st century education. Our vision at Shirpser School is that we will prepare students for college and career readiness. Shirpser School has 1 administrator, 28 certificated teachers, 25+ support staff members and about 540 students.

The staff at Shirpser works in collaboration with parents and community members to ensure that all students successfully realize and meet their full academic potential. The school focuses on literacy through programs like Accelerated Reader, I-Ready, Benchmark Advance, and Study Sync. In addition, we prepare our students to have a strong understanding of the fundamentals of math and develop their ability to think mathematically through programs like Go Math, Math Expressions, I-Ready Math, and ST Math.

In 2016 our school began incorporating Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits for Highly Effective People through the implementation of The Leader in Me school program.

In  2019, Shirpser  was recognized as a Lighthouse school becoming  one of approximately 300 schools worldwide that have earned Lighthouse Certification. The certification is evidence that Shirpser School produced outstanding results in school and student outcomes, by implementing the leadership process with excellence.

Leadership opportunities for our students come in the form of a Student Lighthouse team, Cross age tutoring, Student Recycle Helpers, Student Classroom Leaders/Representatives and Morning Greeters. Additionally, we offer other activities like Chorus, Band, Musical theatre, Coding Classes and LEGO robotics.

Our staff is committed to give students the skills necessary to become productive and involved 21st century citizens.
